Herkimer Diamond Necklace, Grade A, 1.00 Carat, Necklace
18" Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver Box Chain Mined in Herkimer New York
Every Lumina necklace is created with the same craftsmanship. Although your Herkimer Diamond may not exactly match the one pictured here due to the nature of how these crystals are formed, it will be the same grade and approximate carat weight. Each necklace is handmade in our Lumina lab and will be matched as closely as possible to the photograph shown.
(Please Note: In one of the pictures the Herkimer Diamond Necklace is seen with a Dolomite Rock that contains Herkimer Diamonds, this is a prop and is not included with the Necklace.)
Herkimer Diamonds can only be found in one place in the world, Herkimer County, New York, USA. They are very unique in that they come out of the ground double terminated with 18 faces (naturally faceted). A common diamond must be formed by a lapidary in order to appear terminated and faceted in this way. Herkimer Diamonds are a quartz crystal. Most quartz crystals are a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale while Herkimer Diamonds are 7.5. They are more rare than a common diamond and are over 500 million years old. Many Herkimer Diamonds can be found to have black spots in them. This is called Anthraxolite, black carbon deposit which looks similar to black coal. Some even have bubbles of water found in them or a rare combination of the two. Your Herkimer Diamond can be valued based color, clarity, and carat weight.
Lumina's gem stones are hand mined by Lumina. After our rock hounding adventure, the finds are brought back to Lumina's Lab where they are cleaned, sorted, weighed, and classified into a Herkimer Diamond Grading category (see image for details). The perfect Diamond Specimen is chosen to accompany the piece and is set in the Sterling Silver 925 Cap. The Pendent is then placed with a Sterling Silver 925 Jump Ring onto an 18” Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver Box Chain. This process showcases the Herkimer Diamond's raw, straight from the earth, beauty.
