RHODIUM PLATED STERLING SILVER (.925)

Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver

Lumina
uses Rhodium Plating to finish many of our Sterling Silver chains and other findings.

Rhodium is said to be the most expensive metal on the planet and is extremely rare.  Rhodium is a by-product of mining other minerals, such as copper and nickel.  It is hypoallergenic.  It is used because of its strength and its ability to resist corrosion.  These strengths make Rhodium perfect for jewelry, but due to the hardness and brittleness of the metal, and its high cost, it cannot be used in its pure form to make jewelry. The only way Rhodium is used in jewelry is to plate other metals such as sterling silver, gold, platinum, brass and palladium.

Sterling Silver is a soft metal that tarnishes easily.  If plated with Rhodium the piece of metal maintains its shine longer and resists it tarnishing; while, providing it with more strength.  Ultimately making your jewelry more valuable.
